Safety Tips With Inferno
Inferno the dalmatian is very concerned for everybody's safety. Here is his page of safety tips! It will be updated periodically with more tips!
Smoke Detectors
- Install smoke detectors in your house! Smoke detectors can warn you before a fire has gotten a chance to really escalate, which can save the lives of your family. Inhalation of smoke and gases is more likely than getting burned, so please consider installing a smoke detector. - Remember to change your smoke detector's batteries monthly, so that your smoke detector is always ready to warn you! |
Stop, Drop, and Roll
- If you find yourself in a situation where you are on fire, remember to "stop, drop, and roll." This rhyme has good advice behind it, and is especially effective if other methods (dousing with water or fire extinguisher) are used along with it.
- Stop. Stop moving, for movement can fan the flames and make it worse.
- Drop. Drop to the ground, and if you can, lay down. Try to cover your face to avoid damage to it.
- Roll. Rolling smothers the flames and deprives it of oxygen. If there is a rug or blanket nearby, wrap yourself in that to further help put out the flame.

Escape a Burning Building.
- If you find yourself in a burning building, escape as quickly as possible.
- Don't take time to grab possessions. Your life is more important than possessions. Things can be replaced, lives can't.
- Stay out. Don't return into a fire for anything; not possessions, not a pet, not even a family member. Tell emergency responders if a pet or person is still inside. They may have already escaped without your knowledge, and it's better if rescuers in outfits suited for the situation go in to get them.

Press Your Hand on the Door
- Have you ever seen a building with a sign on the door saying "Keep door closed for fire regulations." Closed doors can be lifesavers. - If you are in a room with a closed door, and the house is on fire, press the back of your hand against the door. If it is warm or hot, seek a different way to exit the room. A warm or hot door means the fire is just behind it. |
Have an Escape Plan
- Whether it's your home, your work office, or school, always have an escape plan. - Think of at least two ways to escape every room, in case one exit is blocked. Have a path to take once you escape a room. - Have a place to meet once everybody has exited the building. Make sure it is far enough away to not be in danger from the fire. If you have a meeting place, you will know who all got out and who didn't, so that you can notify authorities when someone is missing. - Review the escape plan with everybody in your family (or coworkers/students) so that everyone knows what to do.
